Don't Expect Other People To Take Care Of Your Needs:

It's is very important to understand in life that even if a certain person makes a commitment to you, even if it's a person you helped in the past or a family member not to rely on their promise.

In life the real people that deliver are people who talk less and do more, people who showed you that they are capable of keeping their word numerous times.

But it is important to remember that you also have plan B.

For example: Your parents told you they are going to help you pay the rent but you still have a temporary job just in case.

It's important to understand that even a person you helped financially, or let into your home most likely won't be there for you.  Just hope for the best because usually that person you helped will forget all about you when he leaves.  Keep in mind that true giving is without expecting anything in return so be strong and remember you gave, so that person did not take advantage of you, for he can't take what you won't allow him.

There is a nice Zen story  about Shichiri Kujune  studying in his home when a thief came to his home with a sword and demanded money. Shichiri just told him where the money was so he could continue studying, when the thief was heading out Shichiri asked him: Won't you  me  for the gift I just gave you? The thief thanked him

Time went by and the thief was caught  and so people discovered that the thief has also visited  Shiciri's house. When Shicri was asked if he will be willing to testify Schiri simply answered that he wouldn't, for in his point of view he didn't steal anything from him, he got it as a present and he even thanked him for it.

After the thief finished his duty to the community, he became one of Shiciri's most devoted students.

As you can see this little story is a wonderful example of  how your response and attitude to any situation even if somebody has a bad intention, can affect the outcome. By reaching how he did to the thief, Schiri was able to transform a bad situation into a positive one.

That's why it is important that you take control over your attitude in order to minimize the damage.
